RMAC Charter

The Rocky Mountain Action Coalition (RMAC) consists of leaders of retiree groups of major Colorado-based corporations. We include IBM, Johns-Manville, US West and HP/Agilent retirees. Our charter is to interface with members of the US Congress and Congressional candidates to further the objectives of affordable healthcare and protection of hard earned pensions. We have formed a working alliance with the rapidly expanding Colorado chapter of the Alliance for Retired Americans (CARA). Between RMAC and CARA, we have over 34,000 voting members in Colorado.

We are non-political, but we make the positions of all Congressional Legislators on healthcare and pensions available to our members. This we accomplish through retiree meetings, newsletters, newspaper articles and websites.  Our objective is to educate all of our membership on where each Legislator stands on the issues that are critical to our future. We are determined to be a force for change in the future of retirees in Colorado and Wyoming.

During 2004 we surveyed many organizations; including healthcare advocacy groups, industries, unions and retiree groups to determine if a common position existed on what an affordable healthcare program should consist of. As a result of the survey, we have adopted the National Coalition on Healthcare (NCHC) specification for universal healthcare (see Health Care: Evaluation of US Legislation) as the proposal that best satisfies everyone’s interests. Since then, we have evaluated various healthcare legislative proposals against the NCHC specification to determine the extent to which they meet the defined criteria for reform.

See Legislation and Initiatives: RMAC Legislative Agenda for the positions RMAC has taken regarding legislation affecting retirees.
